comforting a grieving mother

She wrapped a warm, pale blue cotton blanket around my prone body as I rested on the couch. I did not ask for or even desire it. She somehow intuited all of the actions leading up to that moment; purchasing the blanket, washing it, and intentionally bringing it warm from her clothes dryer to wrap around me.

My dear friend did all this for me soon after the death of my young adult son. It was during my darkest months when physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion left me barely able to function. She simply called and asked if she could drop something off and stay for an hour.

Writing these words now, I can easily conjure up the tenderness, comfort, and love my friend embraced me with as she wrapped me in that soft, warm blanket. It was mystical-like in its beauty. The deeply loving action of a friend remains in our hearts for all time.

With healing light and love,

Lisa
